Death Notice for John Rogers Fraser. Weekly Times Melbourne Saturday 27 September 1884

Fraser – On 22nd ult, at his residence, Queen Street Westport, New Zealand, John Rogers Fraser son of the late Michael Fraser, Esq, Dover,Kent, England.

After the death of John Fraser in 1884, widow Clara Fraser and daughters Esther and Emma travelled back to Melbourne where Clara had been born. This was in the late 1800’s. Clara worked at Ballarat, Victoria. Esther’s mother Clara married again on 1 January 1892 to William Foulsum in Ballarat, Victoria. They had two sons together. Herbert (Bert) Cassidy Foulsom and William (Bill) Charles Foulsom.  Esther was 10 years old at the time of the marriage.

In the early 1900’s Esther with her sister Emma left Victoria and travelled to Perth, Western Australia to help their Aunt Ethel Hillier care for her newborn twins. Both sisters settled in Western Australia.

In 1914 Esther is recorded as living in Gardiner Street and Joel Terrace, East Perth. In 1916 she is still living in East Perth. The following year, 1917 she has moved to Boyanup, Western Australia and is working as a Post Mistress.

It is during this time that Esther meets farmer William Proctor Scott of ‘Roselands’ Stratham. Proctor’s first wife had died in 1916 and they had nine children together. By this time Proctor is in his 60’s. After a courtship of which his large family were not that happy about, Proctor marries Esther in 1920 at Maylands, Western Australia. Esther is 38 years old, and Proctor is 64 years old. Three children are born to Esther and Proctor although their first born son Derek only lives for one hour.

Sadly, Esther becomes a widow after only ten years of marriage with Proctor. This leaves Esther with a large family and the farm ‘Roselands’ to manage. Her two children having only just commenced school at Stratham School. Therefore, Esther needed help in running the farm and employed a dairy hand to work in the dairy.

It is not known how long Esther remained living at ‘Roselands’. She died suddenly on 14 April 1951 of cardiac failure at her home 89 Spencer Street, Bunbury, Western Australia. Aged 68 years. She is buried at the Capel Cemetery, Capel, Western Australia.
