Their Story
Edna was known as Jean all her life.
Jean attended Capel Primary School
She married James Scott (Jim) in 1938.
They lived on their dairy farm in Elgin, Western Australia where they started their married life. The farm was known as ‘Kyeema’. They had a dairy herd of 50 cows and sold the cream to the Boyanup Butter factory, with the residue milk feeding the calves and landrace pigs.
Jean was a great cook with many edible cakes taken to the Elgin Hall Committee dances, held at the Elgin Hall. She and Jim enjoyed these dances very much, often attending dances in Bunbury as well.
Jean enjoyed golf and her lawn bowls for a number of years until she had health problems.
Being very much community minded, she was also a member of the Capel CWA.
After Jim died in 1968 Jean lived at ‘Kyeema’ for a number of years before building a home in Capel for herself and daughter Dale.
Ten years later Jean moved to Perth to be nearer family and bought a house next to her other daughter Pam in Kingsley.
Jeans sister Chris Bicknell lived at a retirement village in Woodvale and encouraged Jean to buy one of the lovely homes near her, which she did, enjoying it very much.
Jean later moved to a nursing home in Bassendean where she lived until her death in 2010. She and Jim share the same grave at the Capel Cemetery.
